OBC vi accompagnerà nelle prossime settimane in una serie di avventure, immersi nella natura dei Balcani. Viaggi virtuali per i lettori del nostro sito, quanto mai reali per chi decidesse di partire.

La prima escursione vede per protagonista un profondo canyon, intagliato nella roccia, nei pressi di Konjic, Bosnia centrale. Da anni è divenuto meta di un turismo alternativo, opportunità di sviluppo locale nel rispetto dell'ambiente. Il nostro inviato Massimo Moratti ce lo racconta con un reportage, un'intervista ed un video.

Nelle prossime puntate riemergeremo dal canyon della Rakitnica per affrontare un trekking in quota tra le montagne di Pale, sempre in Bosnia Erzegovina, per andare ad arrampicare nella Val Rugova, in Kosovo, e ci dedicheremo infine alla mountain bike nell'entroterra istriano. Albania: caschi bianchi oltre le vendette

C'è tempo fino alle 14:00 del 28 settembre 2011 per presentare domanda al bando promosso da Associazione Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII, capofila, FOCSIV e Caritas Italiana per sei posti di servizio civile sperimentale sui temi della difesa civile non armata e nonviolenta. L’obiettivo generale del progetto è di promuovere meccanismi di riconciliazione e ricomposizione dei conflitti generati dalle “vendette di sangue” attraverso: un’indagine dettagliata ed aggiornata del fenomeno nel nord dell'Albania; l'incremento e consolidamento del livello di relazione e fiducia tra operatori e famiglie in vendetta di sangue; il coinvolgimento della società civile e delle istituzioni albanesi e internazionali sul tema. ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE MIND by Salomon Resnik (Silvy, 2011)

In An Archaeology of the Mind, Salomon Resnik brings together different facets of his life as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. His own personal focus, as well as his life-long clinical work, has concentrated on the psychotic experience and on becoming aware, together with the patient, of the underlying philosophy of the latter’s delusional world.

In both his private work and institutional settings, Resnik emphasises the fact that psychosis may be a pathological “solution”, one which has to be re-experienced and understood in the transference situation as an unconscious ontological and metaphysical preoccupation.

This implies that the psychoanalyst must accompany the patient in his or her travels through a dimension in which everyday reality, the experience of life and unconscious wounds are unavoidable.
After thawing-out (cf. the same author's Glacial Times, Routledge, 2005) and the deflating of delusions, chronic patients need to get in touch with their own feelings in their present life. This can be accomplished only by means of a psychoanalytical journey through ancient wounds and scars, while at the same time facing up to old and new aesthetic impacts, for these too are part of everyday life.

Neuropsychoanalysis – How can we practice such a transdisciplinary enterprise?

The recent emergence of neuropsychoanalysis raises several questions that pertain to different contexts -- methodological, epistemological, and empirical. I present an outline of a systematic transdisciplinary methodological strategy, with an overview of how we have practiced this in our research endeavors by developing neuropsychodynamic hypotheses about how self and objects are constituted and, at the same time, differentiated in  the brain. The trandisciplinary methodology of neuropsychoanalysis can also productively address psychiatric disturbances like depression and schizophrenia, where these self- and object-related processes are disturbed in a paradigmatic way.

Paure

Il crescente interesse con cui la Turchia si rivolge ai paesi delle primavere arabe è guardato con timore da Israele. Concreta è la paura che la lunga stagione dell’amicizia turco israeliana stia per finire. In questi giorni si è alzato il livello dello scontro diplomatico tra Ankara e Tel Aviv iniziato a fine maggio 2010 con l’abbordaggio della Freedom Flottilla, la pubblicazione del rapporto ONU sull'incidente della Mavi Marmara, e il conseguente viavai d'ambasciatori degradati e richiamati.

La paura di inimicarsi il mondo arabo ha messo nei guai il premier greco cipriota Christofias. L'inchiesta relativa all’esplosione del luglio scorso alla base navale di Mari dove da due anni erano stoccati 98 container di armi sequestrate all'Iran e dirette in Siria, mostra ambiguità e ricatti. Damasco, secondo Christofias, avrebbe richiesto che fosse consentito alla nave che trasportava gli armamenti di continuare il suo viaggio verso la Siria, pena conseguenze negative per le relazioni fra la Repubblica di Cipro e il mondo arabo, nonché pressioni sulla Conferenza Islamica per il riconoscimento della Repubblica Turca di Cipro Nord.

"Aspettando la paura" è invece il titolo della raccolta di racconti di Oğuz Atay, scrittore turco scomparso prematuramente nel 1977 e considerato il pioniere del romanzo moderno in Turchia. La casa editrice Lunargento propone oggi anche al pubblico italiano la raccolta di racconti di Atay, curata da Giampiero Bellingeri con postfazione di Orhan Pamuk. Nostra recensione.

Città

Luoghi, eventi, storie. Nei Balcani che cambiano, città diverse diventano insieme protagonista e palcoscenico del cambiamento. Come Skopje, capitale della Macedonia. Katharina Urbanek e Milan Mijalkovic, sono andati alla ricerca del significato della profonda trasformazione, spaziale e simbolica che la città sta attraversando col libro, provocatorio e dissacrante “Skopje, the world's bastard”. Li abbiamo intervistati.

Istanbul, intanto, diventa il simbolo di un ulteriore passo della Turchia verso nuovi orizzonti. È proprio nella ex capitale turca, che si concentrano la maggior parte dei beni immobili, appartenenti alle minoranze religiose e confiscati negli ultimi cinquant'anni, che il governo di Erdoğan ha deciso di restituire ai legittimi proprietari. Una decisione storica, anche se non sufficiente a riportare indietro comunità ormai quasi scomparse.

A Pola, infine, l'anfiteatro romano fa da sfondo ad un altro evento di impor tanza storica. È qui che i presidenti di Italia e Croazia, Giorgio Napolitano e Ivo Josipović si sono incontrati, segnando un ulteriore e profondo passo in avanti sulla strada della riconciliazione tra i due Paesi, e sottolineando la voglia di lasciarsi definitivamente alle spalle le dolorose questioni del Novecento.

Sabato 10 e domenica 11 settembre sono previsti gli ultimi incontri che coinvolgono OBC nell'ambito del Festival internazionale di danza Oriente Occidente

Sarà invece inaugurata venerdì 16 settembre la mostra fotografica di Livio Senigalliesi "Balcani, vent'anni dopo. 1991 - 2011" promossa da OBC, nell'ambito di RoveretoImmagini 2011

Sono più di mille gli episodi di violenza domestica accertati dalla polizia in Kosovo ogni anno. In quattro casi su cinque, le vittime sono donne. Scade alle 12:00 di lunedì 12 settembre 2011 il termine per i soli cittadini della Bosnia Erzogivina di presentare la propria candidatura a tutor dell'European Regional Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democracy in South East Europe (ERMA), coordinato dal Center for Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies dell'Università di Sarajevo in collaborazione con l'Istituto per l’Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica dell'Università di Bologna. La durata del contratto sarà di un anno a partire dal 31 ottobre 2011 e la retribuzione prevista è pari a 1.200 euro lordi mensili. Costruttori di ponti

Questa settimana ricorre l'anniversario dell'operazione Tempesta a seguito della quale, nel 1995, l'esercito croato prese il controllo delle Krajine e circa 200.000 serbi di Croazia fuggirono dal Paese. Per il presidente croato Josipović si trattò di “giorni di onore e gloria”, mentre per il suo omologo serbo Tadić in queste giornate i serbi “portano il lutto e rendono omaggio alle vittime innocenti”.

Mentre le versioni ufficiali del passato restano distanti, nei Balcani emergono sempre più – fuori dalle istituzioni – le figure di coloro che Alex Langer definiva costruttori di ponti, esploratori di frontiera, traditori della compattezza etnica.

A loro abbiamo deciso di dedicare una serie di articoli, che ricordano il movimento croato contro la guerra, l'educazione al coraggio civile dell'associazione Gariwo di Sarajevo e, lontano dai Balcani, le iniziative per il dialogo tra armeni e azeri del centro Imagine. Per cercare di elaborare una visione comune della storia recente e guardare avanti.

L’ultimo dei latitanti

Goran Hadžić era l’ultimo dei latitanti ricercati dal Tribunale internazionale dell’Aja per i crimini nella ex Jugoslavia (TPI), l’ultimo dei 161 accusati da questo tribunale e il 46simo consegnato dalla Serbia. Secondo il presidente serbo Tadić il suo arresto era “un atto dovuto nei confronti dei cittadini della Serbia e nei confronti delle vittime, oltre che necessario al proseguimento del processo di riconciliazione tra le società della nostra regione”.

Dopo la consegna di Radovan Karadžić e Ratko Mladić, con l'arresto di Goran Hadžić avvenuto mercoledì 20 luglio alle ore 8.24 a Fruška Gora, in Vojvodina, si chiude il capitolo della collaborazione tra la Serbia e il Tribunale internazionale dell'Aja per i crimini in ex Jugoslavia.

Ora la Serbia si aspetta da Bruxelles il riconoscimento dello status di Paese candidato all’UE e, possibilmente, la data per l’avvio dei negoziati di adesione. Ma nonos tante la rimozione degli ostacoli legati alla piena collaborazione con il TPI, il percorso di Belgrado verso l’UE è solo al suo inizio.

During this  long summer weekend,  there are a number of interesting

apart from the uncertain economic and political reportage that
bombards us the rest of the time. There were no new posts in the
Announcements category and I did not repeat the old.
My picks this week are the following, but please note them all:

health, and are a must  read.

2) The inconvenient truth about us is beautifully described by
Carlos Strenger when he writes   Psychoanalysis Meets Existentialism:
Robert Stolorow on Trauma and Authenticity.  This is a
psychological/philosophical gem.

3) The review of ***Philosophy in The Flesh*** as well as the book are
well worth reading

It has been a week of sorrowful events  both in the world and for
psychoanalysis,  all only slightly expectable,  Thus we have deaths
and devastation from tornadoes to the unexpected announcement of the
death of Leo Rangell - an irreparable loss to psychoanalysis.  In that

Ratko Mladić è all'Aja, ed è comparso oggi per la prima volta davanti ai giudici. E' stata una settimana intensa quella appena trascorsa. Si è dibattuto sul come è avvenuto l'arresto, sulle responsabilità del governo serbo, sulle fragole che avrebbe voluto mangiare Mladić in cella.

Ma di tutto questo poco ci importa. Se rischia di spostare l'attenzione da ciò che riteniamo veramente importante: Ratko Mladić è stato arrestato; Ratko Mladić è ora all'Aja per rispondere di genocidio; l'arresto di Mladić non può che essere un tassello in più nel processo di verità e giustizia nei Balcani, che deve ora andare avanti con maggior energia di prima.

The Dynamic Memory Trace

Emotionally charged events are well remembered and traumatic events, even a single traumatic event, can be remembered for a lifetime. Thus, shock and stress are critical components of long-lasting memories.

How are these memories formed and stored? Can they be changed?  I will discuss studies from my laboratory showing that memory consolidation and storage, the processes that underlie long-term memory, are very dynamic and critically involve mechanisms regulated by the stress hormones glucocorticoids. I will discuss data showing how the process of memory reconsolidation – a post-retrieval restabilization of a labile trace – opens a window of opportunity for strengthening or weakening memories as well as creating new memory traces through new processes of consolidation. In animal models, we have identified mechanisms that can strengthen memories and prevent forgetting by tapping into the consolidation and reconsolidation processes. We have also identified treatments that disrupt memory reconsolidation and may serve as potential therapeutic approaches for weakening traumatic memories or memories induced by drugs of abuse.  I will show data supporting the conclusion that the main function of reconsolidation is to contribute to the lingering consolidation process and mediate memory strengthening. Finally, I will discuss the literature and our results regarding the influence of the passage of time on the reconsolidation of memory.  These points have important implications for the use of memory consolidation and reconsolidation in therapeutic settings.
